The French painter Henri Manguin belonged to the Fauves, an association of artists of the French avant-garde in the 20th century. Inspired by Cézanne and van Gogh, he sought to exploit the powers of pure colour. His paintings were tumultuous and expressive bursts of colour. Manguin immortalised in his paintings his wife, who often modelled for him in his nude drawings, and the landscapes of southern France. As canvas prints, the master’s motifs appear particularly authentic.
